Surgery report: January 11 2022
Hello! I’m writing with a quicker update after connecting with Molly and Liam following today’s surgery. Overall, it’s great news. By no means is Molly “out of the woods” yet (it’s not sure that one ever is with uterine LMS), but this is a fantastic start to the journey to be able to report!
Before we get going, here is a picture of Molly pre-op, with her sister-in-law’s boyfriend, James, bringing the Eye of the Tiger to her check-in!
A successful procedure
The surgery today successfully removed the ovaries and tumor; on the latter, it was cleanly removed and in its full entirety without complications or damage to other organs (like to the bladder, against which it was pressed). Dr. O’Malley also told her he felt good about having removed everything of even possible concern (other nodules, for example; on that note – there was a nodule on her vaginal cuff, but it was not cancerous). So it really seems like the situation was pretty clear-cut and overall a great outcome on the day! She may be discharged as soon as tomorrow and we will keep you posted when she is back at home.
What’s next?
The timeline from here will look roughly like:
Currently, a focus on healing from the procedure and getting used to the effects of surgically induced menopause, which will probably start in a few days.
In about two weeks, she will see Dr. David Liebner (her case manager moving forward) to discuss pathology results and next steps for the overall treatment plan.
In about three weeks, she will meet with Dr. O’Malley for a post-op/healing assessment.
If chemo is recommended, it will start in about 4 weeks.
Feeling the love & sending more support
Thank you again for your swift and immediate outpouring of support! Molly could feel the love going into the surgery today, and that’s all thanks to this incredible community already!
I’ll end with a quote from Molly herself: “I am feeling really good.”
