Treatment plan: January 26, 2022
I met with Dr. Liebner today, sarcoma specialist at OSU, and am feeling good about the plan! Pathology indicated that the 9 cm tumor near my bladder (that grew in less than 2 months) was also leiomyosarcoma. They also found some much smaller tumor implants near my left ovary and peritoneal wall, and those were removed.
The plan is to get a full body scan Feb 7 to make sure nothing is growing anywhere else (leiomyosarcoma can move throughout the body via the bloodstream). This scan will also serve as a baseline before starting chemotherapy on Feb 10. I will receive six 3-week cycles of gem/tax (gemcitabine and docetaxel). The goal is to stop any growth, including microscopic growth. Dr. Liebner said on a scale of 1 to 10, in terms of the severity of the chemo and its impact on the body, gem/tax is a 6. There will be some side effects (though everyone responds differently), and I will lose my hair. Fiona was sad to hear this but then very excited when we decided to dye my hair rainbow and try out some crazy cuts before chemo starts. Stay tuned!
When the chemo treatment stops in early June, I may get pelvic radiation to target possible localized growth in the site where tumors have been.
Liam and I are so grateful for the support from friends and family. We are feeling the love and warmth from you all on these frigid January days in Ohio. And of course the kids help us live in the moment. Look at those smiles!

Awww look at those girls! Thanks for the update and I'm glad you're feeling good about the plan! We want to see pics of rainbow hair - I'll have to re-up my purple with you! <3
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, Molly. I'm glad you're feeling good about the plan. I'm thinking of you a lot. Please can Fiona dye her hair too? She would really rock a rainbow look!
ReplyDeleteLook at those little nuggets!! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for keeping us informed as we think and worry about you and the entire family every day. This all sounds so promising. Hair? Who neeeds it!! Can't wait to see pics of your rainbow hair. And if I ever grow hair again (not likely at 76) I'll do the same in solidarity and send you pictures. Hug those kids for me, (OK, Liam can have a hug, too) and hug yourself for keeping up the keeping up we all need to do in tough times. Kids pictures are fantastic, but I'm not sure I'd turn my back on either of them for more than two minutes. Theree are tricksters in those looks. Here's to all of you and know you remain in our thoughts and with our hopes.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are in command of the situation, Molly. Love from the Ransoms of Minnesota. P.S. The Nichols, aside from your father, have always had altogether too much hair.
ReplyDeleteWe'll be thinking of you, Molly! And we know you'll navigate the chemo with your admirable strength! I'm silently hoping you'll share photos of rainbow hair and wild haircuts. Sending you all big, big hugs!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is great communicating this way. Love seeing the photographs of your wonderful family as well! Sounds like a good treatment plan! Keep in touch with us every step of the way! We are here for you!
ReplyDeleteLove, Elicia
Molly, I personally have always hoped for a Nichols lass with a fly headshave. Thank you for sharing your very private family news about rainbows. I love you woman, Dr. Sarno says hey and that he is completely behind Dr. Liebner. You're a golden beast <3
