Surgery went well!

Hello, friends and fam. I love seeing all your comments, thank you!

My surgery went well! Dr. Grignol removed all visible tumors in my pelvis. She had to remove part of my colon, but they were able to sew it back together to avoid a colostomy.

Sarcoma can be sticky, so while she felt good about the margins she still called in the radiation oncologist, Dr. Martin, who radiated the tumor bed on the spot in the OR. Pretty wild.

Dr. Grignol did find a small tumor in the abdomen we hadn’t seen on scans, but that’s not too uncommon. She also found a few even smaller spots which may be scar tissue, but we’ll know more when we get pathology results.

I’m resting at the hospital. I have an epidural which really helps with the pain and helps me avoid taking narcotics.

My amazing mother-in-law Janice is helping with the kids at home, and Amy and then my mom will come once I’m home. Hopefully by Sunday or Monday.

I’m on leave from work again, likely until January. Major shout out to our union PWU ✊for helping workers get long term disability coverage and good insurance that I can maintain even when I’m on leave. And thank you to Sierra Club for working with the union to offer this kind of support. I can’t quite imagine the added stress and difficulty for folks who get sick and don’t have that support.

How about some Medicare for all? Hopefully some day!

And props to everyone who did electoral work and volunteering this season. I hope to be back in soon. I want to acknowledge my sister Siobhan’s fearless group Misfits for Democracy who made calls 3 evenings a week for PA,WI, and NC. Check them out for the next election!

And here is a cute pic of my kids in dresses my friend Kate made! Thank you!

Love you all,

Molly
